FAQS
Do you specify products from just trade suppliers?
In a word “no,” we will carefully consider your budget and consult whole of market. Unlike many designers our business model is based on a consultancy fee rather than product mark ups, as such we specify products from high street and superstores right through to specialist trade and custom-made suppliers.
Can you design and specify bathrooms as a stand-alone service?
Over the years we have designed hundreds of bathrooms. This is a very popular service, and it is important to note that we consult whole of market and are not restricted to specifying products that we sell. We also design custom joinery and provide scale drawing for panelling and marble/granite designs. If you choose us to design your bathrooms you will receive scale drawings and detailed product lists. We also include lighting design and specification.
What if I want you to organise my new bathroom installation?
If your home is in the Sevenoaks, Tunbridge Wells, Oxted, Forest Row, Wadhurst or Uckfield areas we can certainly organise and manage the process as an end-to-end service.
Can you provide plans for internal alterations and extensions?
If you are based in Kent, Sussex or Surrey we can visit and conduct a site survey and generate your floor plans. Once we have an accurate set of scale plans, we can get started on spatial alterations. We work with a very experienced structural engineering company and can provide you with a complete package of drawings and specifications. If you are looking for a second opinion or your current design is just not quite right, we offer a plan review service. This is a service that we can offer Nationwide.
What if I just want lighting design. Do you offer this as a stand-alone service?
Yes, we do, and we are not restricted to products that we are sell you. We operate as consultants rather than retailers and consult the whole of market. You will be provided with detailed plans and a specification sheet. Polly has been offering lighting design since 1996 and providing you have scale plans we can offer this service Nationwide.
How does the design process work?
No two projects are ever the same but as an example please see below.
STAGE 1 – Initial telephone consultation
Let’s set up a mutually convenient time for a chat to see if we are a good match for each other. This is a great opportunity for us to try and understand your requirements and aspirations and for you to see if we are a good fit for your project.
STAGE 2 – Brief & proposal
We will carefully consider the comments from our initial call and generate a BRIEF for your perusal. This is where you get to see if we have understood your requirements and the scope of your project and we invite your feedback. We will then generate an updated brief and a fee proposal. If you would like to work with us, we will then provide a booking deposit invoice, a detailed payment plan, and issue you with a project form to complete.
STAGE 3 – Preliminary design
This is where the design process begins. If we are not working from your plans, we will visit your property and carry out a survey of the site. We will gather as much information as possible and then use this to generate scale drawings and preliminary designs. We will set up a mutually convenient time to run through and discuss your preliminary design. You will then be asked to fill out a simple feedback form.
STAGE 4 – Revision round one
We carefully consider your feedback and revise your design. Your updated design is presented and discussed, and we ask you to fill out a simple feedback form.
STAGE 5 – Revision round two
We consider your feedback and revise your design. Your updated design is presented and discussed, and we ask you to fill out a simple feedback form.
STAGE 6 – Final scheme
This is where we generate your final design and associated product and data sheets.
Can you offer an end-to-end design and installation service
We have built up a trusted team of specialist contractors and can offer competitively priced design, install and project management packages.
We are downsizing and need help with everything. We also need to future proof our new home, can you help?
Yes, we can. Downsizing can be quite scary. Generally clients are normally worried about how they will adjust to living in a reduced space, if their furniture will fit or suit their new home and in addition to these concerns are the overwhelming practicalities of moving. Scary, destabilising and overwhelming are words that we have heard but what if it could be exciting and enjoyable?
The first stage is to visit the existing home and understand how your clients live and what they own. It’s always a useful exercise to establish which pieces of furniture and art are being retained and reused, and create an inventory. We often build a scheme around existing pieces and the result is a new home that feels familiar and friendly.
Next we visit the new property and the design process begins, depending on the age of the occupants we will integrate stylish and practical solutions to future proof your new home. Great future proofing should be something that you don’t even notice but it’s there should you need it. If required we can take care of all the renovations, new furnishings and fittings and you can simply move in once your new home is ready.
Can you provide design and interior specification packages for my new build home?
Yes, we can. We can provide you with everything your contractor needs regarding the services and fit out of your new build project. Our previous clients have found that having clear documentation on detailed schedules of fixtures and fittings has made their build journey much easier and has been a big contributing factor to excellent relationships with their main contractor.
Can you design staircases and specialist joinery?
Whether you want timber, glass, concrete or metal, we design and specify all types of staircases. We can work with you to design custom joinery, this includes kitchens, dressing rooms, media units, libraries, vanity units and individual pieces of furniture. We can either provide CAD drawing for your own contractor, or you can engage one of our trusted partners.
Will you consider designing one room?
Absolutely, whether you would like design work for one room or a complete house you can be assured of the same level of service.
How much do you charge?
We charge a fixed fee for design work and each project is priced individually based on size and complexity. Our plan review service starts at £240. Ad hoc consultancy is £120 for the 1st hour and £45 per half hour thereafter. We are happy to discuss blocks of consultancy at a reduced rate to use as you wish throughout your project. This can be a cost effective solution.
Project management is priced individually because each project is different. We can either agree a set number of hours per week paid as a retainer or work on an ad hoc consultancy basis.
If I pay my booking fee and then change my mind do you offer a refund?
When you book, we allocate time in our diary to accommodate your work and if you cancel, we can be left with gaps in our diary which could otherwise have been filled with paying clients. Although we would love to be able to provide refunds, this is something we simply can’t afford to do.
How do I pay?
Bank transfer or we can send you a payment link. Design packages and project management is paid in pre agreed instalments.
Can you provide references?
Yes, we can. We have always taken the long-term view to business and are proud to have forged excellent relationships with our clients, as such we are delighted to be regularly recommended, and we have many clients who have used our services on more than one occasion (some multiple times). We can provide genuine references and do not rely on social media or advertising. Our clients are front, and centre and we believe that if you treat people well and provide a fairly priced reliable service the client base will look after itself. Our testimonials will give you a feel of the sort of relationships that we have with our clients.
